adlec Clinic continues to expand its services to meet
the medical needs of the region. Two of the most recent
additions include:
New Kadlec Clinic Endocrinology
Kadlec Clinic recently opened a new
endocrinology office with the addition to
its medical staff of Shannon Bales, MD.
Endocrinologists treat diseases affecting
the metabolism of the human body. These
include conditions disrupting the normal
function of the thyroid, parathyroids,
pituitary, adrenal, hypothalamus, ovaries,
testes and the endocrine pancreas, as well
as diseases that change the way the body regulates its internal
environment.
Two primary areas of focus for Dr. Bales are diabetes and
polycystic ovary syndrome. She will coordinate care with
primary care providers as well as Kadlec’s Diabetes Learning
Center.

Expanded Vascular Surgery
Vascular surgeon Dae Lee, MD,
recently joined Kadlec Clinic
Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery
in Richland. Dr. Lee’s addition expands
the vascular surgery services — including
around-the-clock vascular surgery —
available at Kadlec allowing more
patients to remain in the community
for care.
Vascular surgery and services include treatment
for peripheral vascular disease, carotid stenosis and
endarterectomy, abdominal aortic aneurysm, balloon
angioplasty and stenting procedures for narrowed or blocked
arteries, varicose veins, evaluations for minimally invasive
treatments and diagnosis, staging and medical management of
circulation disorders.
Dr. Lee will be working closely with primary care providers
as well as other medical specialists.

30th Reunion
Kadlec’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
will celebrate its 30th anniversary with a
reunion celebration Saturday, October 27,
1 to 3 p.m. at the Richland Community
Center.

CHIP Coronary Health
Program Beginning
Kadlec’s Coronary Health Improvement
Program (CHIP) is a lifestyle program
aimed at substantially decreasing the
risk of coronary artery disease, Type 2
diabetes, essential hypertension and
obesity. A new session is set to begin in

Patty Duke to
present on mental illness
October 5
You may have watched her when in “The
Patty Duke Show” or maybe her Oscar-
winning portrayal of Helen Keller in “The
Miracle Worker.” Now in October, you will
get a chance to see Patty Duke as she
speaks on overcoming mental illness.
Duke will share her wisdom and life
experiences to help inspire listeners as
she talks about her own life journey.
The event is sponsored by the

and set for Friday, October 5, from
7 to 8:15 p.m. at Three Rivers

2012 Kadlec 4 Kids-a-thon
The annual 36-hour Kadlec 4
Kids Radiothon to benefit babies
and children receiving care at
Kadlec Regional Medical Center begins
October 25 and continues through
October 26. In the four years of the
radiothon, broadcast by Radio Tri-
Cities (94.9 FM KIOK ‘The Wolf’), more
than $310,000 has been raised. This
year, contributions are designated
for expansion of the region’s only
Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care
