For the past 30 years, babies from our region needing a
higher level of care have been receiving that care in Kadlec’s
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). As the population, need
and specialized equipment changed, the unit outgrew its space.
In response, Kadlec requested additional beds from the State
of Washington and received the authorization to expand and
increase the level of care possible.
Kadlec Foundation has been leading the effort to expand the
NICU. In anticipation of the project, Kadlec created space for
the NICU in the Pediatric Center.
“Because the expansion will be in the same site, it was
necessary to move the NICU so we can continue to provide this
critical care,” said Rick Kehres, Kadlec’s NICU project manager.
“The temporary NICU will be immediately available upon
approval of the expansion by the Kadlec Board of Directors.”
