Tony Attwood, PhD, one of the world’s foremost
authorities on the subject of Asperger’s syndrome,
is coming to the Tri-Cities to present a day-long
program on October 19. The event is sponsored by
Kadlec Neurological Resource Center.
The program is entitled “Managing Emotions,
Communicating Feelings, Asperger’s & Girls, and
Improving the Education Experience.”
Dr. Attwood is an author and practicing clinical
psychologist in Australia who has worked with
thousands of individuals with Asperger’s, their families and professionals.
During this program he will focus on improving social understanding and
strategies to manage anxiety, anger, sadness, bullying, sexuality and being
different.
The program event runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the
Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick.
Asperger’s syndrome is a developmental disorder generally de$ned as high-
functioning autism. Autism affects one child in 125 today.

its breast cancer awareness activities
with a %ag-raising ceremony.

Throughout October, Kadlec Auxiliary
Gift Shop will be selling breast cancer
awareness shirts and merchandise, with
all pro$ts supporting the free
mammogram program.

October 14 through 15,
Kadlec will have a booth at
the Women’s Expo at TRAC.

In October, departments
throughout Kadlec will be
decorated in pink for Breast
Cancer Awareness month.

of the Month
Each month, Kadlec’s Hero of the Month
program honors children between the
ages of 3 and 18 who have faced, and
overcome, dif$cult circumstances
often enduring a great deal of pain
and stress. Their courage and
spirit serve as an inspiration.
Kadlec is one of numerous
hospitals and child care
facilities throughout the country
participating in the program, which
is sponsored by the Kids Wish
Network.

Breast cancer awareness activities for October
Free mammograms
available
Kadlec Foundation continues to
offer free mammograms for women who
would not otherwise be able to afford a
screening. The screening criteria include
women ages 35 or older with no current
breast problems.
“Our goal is to reach out to women
in our community, to provide education
about breast cancer detection and
prevention and the importance of
screening mammography. We are
pleased to provide this service regardless
of the patient’s ability to pay,” said
Jessie Demarais, Kadlec Mammography
supervisor.

Kadlec Neurological Resource Center
began as the Battelle/Kadlec
Epilepsy Center in November of 1981
with the sole focus on epilepsy.
It’s now 30 years later and it
now has expanded that focus to
more than 26 of the most common
neurological disorders—while
providing support, education,
information, and referrals to
people with neurological disorders,
their families, caregivers and the
community.
