Surender Wadhwa, MD, received the Physician Champion Award
The award recognizes physicians who champion the Planetree model of patient-
centered care and whose actions demonstrate them to be role models for other
staff members.
Dr. Wadhwa was recognized for his tireless devotion to excellence, his $exibility
and his ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment while maintaining a strong
focus on patient care in all settings.
He has served as the medical director of Kadlec’s CardioPulmonary Rehab
for eight years. His ongoing attention to detail and the commitment to making sure the program provides
excellent care is critical to the program’s success.
Additionally, he learns and remembers staff names, patient names, spouses’ names, and even names of
children of almost everyone he comes into contact with. The patients and others who know him consistently
comment on his approachability and knowledge. He makes every encounter one to be remembered. He also
maintains a full practice which has been in existence in our community for more than 25 years.
As a well-respected member of the cardiology services, he also serves as a community ambassador for
cardiac rehab and supports community wellness programs.
Terri McCourtie received the Caregiver Award
The award recognizes that each caregiver has a unique opportunity to positively
in$uence the way health care is delivered.
Terri works as a receptionist at Kadlec Clinic Pasco Primary Care. She was
recognized for her immense help for the physicians and patients from the time the
clinic opened.
Terri came to the clinic highly praised and has lived up to, and exceeded, those
expectations. She has initial contact with patients. Adult and pediatric patients all
love her. She excels at her job and frequently helps out others and goes out of her way for patients. She has
called the clinic from the grocery store to help out a patient she ran into while shopping, and she has driven
patients to and from their appointments when they had no other method of transportation. Terri may leave
the of#ce at 5, but she is always there to help someone in need.
Terri embodies the spirit of Planetree.
Spirit of Planetree Award
Two Kadlec staff members were recipients of the
2011 Spirit of Planetree Awards given at the national convention
I came in for lithotripsy
surgery. This is not a major
surgery but I have had
many surgeries in the
past 15 years and the
more surgeries I have, the
more anxious I become.
Especially when it comes
to getting an IV. This can
be especially painful. Most
people do not know how
to do it properly or they
are just over con$dent and
arrogant. This time was
different.
The nurse that came in
made me feel comfortable
and performed her duties
with empathy and skill,
while letting me maintain
MY dignity. I do not know
her name. I am sure it is
in my $les somewhere. I
wanted to let you know that
she is the best nurse I have
ever had. I hope you do not
take that lightly. As I said, I
have had MANY surgeries.
She deser ves to know how
much I appreciated her and
that she is valued. I never
saw her after she did my IV,
but she stood out. I wanted
to let her know.
