KADLEC’S NEW SIEMENS
Biograph mCT is giving
physicians another tool in caring for patients with cancer
and other diseases by providing PET-CT scans faster, with
more detail and more comfort for patients.
Imaging technologies have become essential tools for
medical professionals. By providing a detailed picture of the
body’s internal structures, they help physicians diagnose
and treat a number of medical conditions.
The new Biograph mCT is the latest advancement in this
important technology.
It is designed to produce precise and accurate high-
resolution images, which gives physicians more detailed
information for diagnosis and treatment planning. It uses
technology that limits a patient’s exposure to radiation,
which is particularly important when imaging children and
patients with frequent follow-up exams. In addition, it has
the capability to perform fast whole-body PET scans.

Pulmonologist Katherine Cayetano, MD,
specializes indiseases of the lungs
and respiratory system. She provides
consultation, diagnostic and therapeutic
services for patients with asthma,
bronchitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease, lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis
and other lung concerns. Her time
will be split, with one-third at Kadlec’s
Intensive Care Unit and two-thirds at the
clinic. This provides a unique continuity
of care for hospitalized patients.

The teamat this clinic, Lisa Galbraith, DO,
and Brian Sollers, DO, offers a
full spectrum of obstetric and
gynecological services from well-
woman care for all ages to routine and
high-risk pregnancy management and
delivery. The providers are well versed
in addressing menopause, abnormal
bleeding, endometriosis and other
conditions. No physician referral is
needed.

The specialists at this clinic have
provided cardiac care for the region
for a number of years and recently
joined Kadlec Clinic. Fadi Alqaisi, MD;
Timothy Chen, DO; Stephen Ewer, MD;
and Iyad Jamali, MD, provide invasive,
non-invasive and interventional cardiac
care. Recently, Abdelazim Hashim, MD,
joined the practice and emphasizes
interventional cardiology.
The system has a larger opening (78 centimeters), which
means it can accommodate patients of larger size, offers
additional patient positioning options during the scan and
creates a less claustrophobic experience.
At Kadlec, the new scanner is used primarily for diagnosis
and treatment of cancer; its advanced technology can show
minute cancer lesions. Its use is also being expanded to
include neurologic care.
In addition, Kadlec is adding a Varian respiratory gating
device that images a patient’s lungs and upper abdomen.
Breathing motion is an unavoidable issue when imaging
these areas of the body. Gating is a way to freeze images so
that blurring is minimized. Gating permits better therapy to
cancers located in the lung field or areas of the body that
are affected by the patient’s breathing patterns.
