Colorectal Surgery
services increasing
IN A CONTINUED
effort to meet the
medical needs of
the region, Kadlec
Clinic General and
Colorectal Surgery
has expanded
with the addition
of Luay Ailabouni, MD. He is board
certified in general surgery and
Fellowship trained in colorectal surgery.
His practice emphasizes the
diagnosis and treatment of disorders
affecting the digestive tract and pelvic
floor, using both minimally invasive
and open surgical procedures to repair
damage to the colon, rectum and
anus.
“When a patient seeks care for
colon and rectal issues, it is a very
private concern,” said Dr. Ailabouni.
“I take care in treating my patients in
a sensitive way.”
Dr. Ailabouni’s services include:
●●
Office-based treatment of disorders
affecting the rectum and anus
including hemorrhoids, abscesses
and fissures
●●
Surgical treatment for colon and
rectal problems including cancer,
diverticulitis and inflammatory bowel
diseases such as ulcerative colitis and
Crohn’s disease
●●
Endoscopy, ultrasound and
manometry procedures
●●
Treatment for pelvic floor disorders
and fecal incontinence
“Too frequently people think that
some of the issues they have are just
a matter of aging and that there is
nothing that can be done to help,”
said Dr. Ailabouni. “That is often not
the case. There are now ways we can
help people that before we could not.
These can significantly improve the
quality of life for some patients.”
Kadlec has also added new
equipment to help with colon and
rectal exams including specialized
ultrasound technology. In addition,
Kadlec has endoscopy technicians
and registered nurses trained to assist
with the procedures performed in the
Outpatient Procedures Endoscopy Unit.

Beads for bravery
BRAVERY HEARTS NECKLACES,
the
sales of which support the Bravery
Hearts Neonatal Intensive Care
Unit (NICU) Bead Program, are now
available in the Kadlec Gift Shop. The
Bravery Bead Program is free for our
NICU babies; each baby earns beads
for the procedures and milestones
during their stay. The NICU can be very
stressful and emotional for families,
and the beads are a way for parents to
track the progress of their baby. The
necklaces in the Gift Shop are $20.
Sales go directly to the purchase of
more beads.
Kadlec recognized for
electronic record system
Each month, Kadlec’s Hero of
the Month program honors
children between the ages
of 3 and 18 who have faced,
and overcome, difficult
circumstances.
Kadlec is one of numerous
hospitals participating in the
program, which is sponsored
by the Kids Wish Network. Our
December 2013 Hero
was Nina Cavanah.

TO OUR HERO OF THE MONTH
RECENTLY, HIMSS ANALYTICS,
a not-for-profit subsidiary of
the Healthcare Information and
Management Systems Society (HIMSS),
recognized 26 Kadlec ambulatory
clinics with its Stage 6 Ambulatory
Award. The award identifies and scores
a health care provider’s electronic
medical record (EMR) capabilities,
ranging from limited ancillary
department systems at Stage 0 to fully
paperless at Stage 7.
Kadlec is among the top
1.23 percent of clinics in the nation
to have achieved this level of EMR
integration.
The Stage 6 designation reflects
Kadlec’s commitment to the highest
levels of patient safety and quality
care in the adoption of an electronic
medical record system and a reflection
of how Kadlec utilizes technology to
improve and enhance the outcomes
for patients.
